Are we talking to a brickwall here?
October 16, 2008
I really enjoyed the comment Oliver made when he said, “I think writing a blog is like talking to a brick wall blindfolded. You think you’re talking to everyone, but you’re just talking to yourself”. On some levels it’s hard to disagree with him. Is anyone really reading what we post besides us? If not, what’s the point then? And, why would it matter if someone else did read it, we’re just being made to do this for English class anyway, right?
Maybe we need to give it some time. Being new to something, like we are to this, makes it easy to be skeptical about it’s purpose or worth.
I am hopeful that this ends up being a little more meaningful for us. Any ideas on how to make that happen?

tell lots of people about it, like i just told a couple of my friends from the states to get on sometimes and check it out. And hopefully they tell other friends and it gets around. Inform people that you have a writing blog and hopefully more and more people will see it, even if we dont make it extremely easy to find for everyone. And to your question why do we really care if people see it well thats simple; if we are going to put our writing on it then we will want it to be commented on like these blogs let us do(i dont know a single person who wouldnt like to make their writing bettter, even if it is just for the grade). even if someone in the class comments on myn it is a good opinion. This way we dont have to bring in a printed copy and pass it around the class, we can just get online(which everyone does regularly anyway) and comment on someones blog!!!
To make this blog project work, I think we need to send the message across to everyone!! We can start by telling a few friends to check it out and comment on our work. We could also tell our parents, and let them send it around. I don’t think other people are reading our blog posts yet. For now I think the only people that will be reading our blogs will be our class for the moment. The message hasn’t gone out yet to the world!! Even though not many people are reading our posts I still think it is neat to try something new, all we need is hope. You may have heard of the “Red Paper Clip” story. The guy wanted to do something different and then with a little hope and faith it reached the world and is now a famous story worldwide. I would like to know that someone out there in this big vast world has taken a few mintes of their time to read my work and comment on it. It really makes me think that someone likes to help out. It would help me to see how other people see my work.
So Let’s Do This Thing!!!!
well i guess we could tell our friends and family(cousins) to comment on our work Also we could maybe post stuff more often… and make it a project. I think if we give it some time it could really work well. =)
From what I know, the people that I know don’t really read blogs. So I am not sure how to make this blog project work. Maybe, we could spread the idea along to other Engliah classes in the middle school, or even high school. I think that would work becuase then you can have other people read your work and comment on it besides just the people in your class. Also you would have different age groups reading and commenting on your work, but first we have to post work on our blogs. But, most of all, I think we just need to give it sometime.
you could accept that very few people know or care and just write for the fun of it
Maybe we should just pick a bit more interesting subjects so that we can publish all this stuff on the web! and yeah listen to oliver few people know or care!!!!!!!!!!!!
we can start by letting our blogs be searchable by google, as there will be that one person who happens to find our blog.
And i also agree with heinrich, we should talk about more interesting subjects then English class in the middle school.
